DAY TWO - Activity Day in East Lothian
Golf has been played in Scotland since the 14th century and today we will arrange for you to play one of the world-renowned courses in East Lothian. The Open Qualifying courses at Gullane and North Berwick, and the Open Championship course at Muirfield are all located here, so it is little wonder that this area is known as the 'Cradle of Golf' and boasts some of the most scenic courses in Scotland.

North Berwick Golf Course, East Lothian
For the non-golfers we will arrange an alternative Activity Day with a very Scottish theme with a half day of Highland Games, followed by a barbecue lunch and a tutored Whisky tasting session. The afternoon will conclude with a journey through Edinburgh’s mysterious past with a Murder Mystery Walking Tour of the city.
A Highland Games event is the perfect way for involving everyone in an action packed, fun-filled experience. The Games begin with the nominated “Chieftains” and competing "clans" being piped into the arena before kilted instructors encourage and coach the skills for all the traditional events, including Tossing The Caber, Haggis Rolling, Putting The Stane and Tug O’War.
Following the Games and a tutored Whisky Tasting you will travel to the historic Royal Mile to meet your Costumed Guide for a journey back into Edinburgh’s mysterious and bloody past, visiting the scenes of many horrific tortures, murders and supernatural happenings within the historic Old Town. This dramatic walking tour combines the best story-telling and the most gruesome history to be found anywhere in Europe.
Tonight you will enjoy a traditional bar supper in Milnes Bar, a landmark on the Edinburgh pub-scene with its extensive range of fine ales and large selection of Malt Whiskies.

We have described two Hotels below in our Activity Scotland itinerary just to give you an idea of the style of accommodation that we use.
The Balmoral Hotel
The Balmoral is a luxury hotel in the true sense of the word, with its majestic landmark clock tower providing one of the iconic images of Scotland’s Capital City.
This stylish five-star property in the very heart of Edinburgh is one of the Rocce Forte Group’s flagship hotels and is close to the leading luxury department stores and within striking distance of many Edinburgh attractions.

The hotel offers opulent suites and stylish rooms with views towards Edinburgh Castle, the Old Town, or the hotel's internal courtyard. All the bedrooms were fully refurbished in the hotel's recent £7 million refurbishment programme which also included the signature conference and banqueting suite, Hadrian's Brasserie, Number One restaurant and the hotel lobby.

When it comes to fine-dining, the choice of restaurants at The Balmoral matches the mood of the moment. Guests can choose from the hotel's Michelin-starred Number One restaurant, Hadrian's for chic and informal dining, Palm Court for cocktails or traditional afternoon tea and NB's Bar for a relaxing drink with live entertainment.
For the ultimate in relaxation, the Balmoral Spa is an exclusive retreat in the heart of the city. Voted the 'Best UK Urban Day Spa' in Condé Nast Traveller's 2005 Readers' Spa Awards, it offers five treatment rooms, a swimming pool, sauna, steam room, gymnasium and exercise studio.

Prestonfield
Prestonfield is Edinburgh's most indulgent retreat and Scotland's latest 5-star hotel. Rated one of the "Best 101 Hotels in the World" by Tatler/Abercrombie & Kent and AA Hotel of the Year 2005, this exceptional hotel is a short distance from Edinburgh's Royal Mile.

This 17th century mansion is set in manicured lawns and 20 acres of parkland adjacent to Prestonfield golf course and Arthurs Seat.
Prestonfield has been lavishly restored by the current owners and the guest bedrooms and suites boast state-of-the-art technology discreetly located amid their antique splendours. The public rooms exude an atmosphere of glorious decadence and The Rhubarb Restaurant is possibly the most magnificent dining-room in the country.

The restaurant is one of Edinburgh’s most opulent and theatrical with a candle-lit, columned hallway leading into the grand dining rooms, decorated in decadent shades of aubergine, plum, red and black brocade.
Richly decadent, stylish and very, very glamorous, the restaurant occupies two exceptionally grand Regency oval rooms hidden at the heart of Prestonfield. Rhubarb delivers all of the magic, drama and romance you would expect from a world class dining experience.
