The Kintyre Way                  your travel options

Newly opened in August 2006 and stretching from Tarbert Harbour in the north, to Dunaverty Bay in the south, the Kintyre Way allows exploration of this wonderful yet undiscovered part of Scotland.

Machrihanish Bay & the Isle of Jura

Machrihanish Bay & the Island of Jura in the distance

The Kintyre Way is Scotland's latest long distance walk and is located in the remote and beautiful Kintyre Peninsula on the West Coast of Scotland.

More island than mainland, the wonderfully unexplored Kintyre peninsula boasts hidden coves, deserted beaches along the wild Atlantic coast, tiny fishing communities, gentle hills, fabulous local produce and welcoming friendly people.

The waymarked trail begins at Tarbert harbour in the north and criss-crosses this lovely peninsula to end at Dunaverty Bay on its southern shore.

There are wonderful views to the west to the islands of Gigha, Jura and on a clear day, Ireland, and to Arran in the east. Enjoy walking through the rolling farmland, past inland lochs, coastal plains, sandy beaches and rocky shores. There's a rich variety of wildlife to enjoy including roe deer, hen harriers and golden eagles, together with a wide variety of noisy sea birds.
