Travel Information

Detailed Travel Information on getting to the start at Tarbert and returning from Southend at the end of the walk will be supplied in your Information Pack, but the following may help with your planning:

Travelling to Scotland:

Travelling by air:

Nearest International Airports - Glasgow International and Glasgow Prestwick.

Easyjet and Ryanair are Budget airlines which fly into both airports. Transfers from Glasgow International Airport can be arranged to Tarbert. Alternatively you can take the airport shuttle bus into Glasgow (journey time approx 25 mins).

A train service operates between Glasgow Prestwick Airport and Glasgow city centre (journey time 45 mins).

Travelling by rail:

GNER and Virgin Rail both operate train services to and from Scotland.

Travelling by road:

Citylink coaches operate bus services to Glasgow, and you can then take a bus to Tarbert. If you plan to travel by car we can advise you of secure car parking facilities in Tarbert.

Travelling by ferry:

Superfast ferries operate services between Zeebrugge and Rosyth (near Edinburgh). It is then approximately a 4 hour drive to Tarbert.

Getting to the Start of the walk at Tarbert:

Citylink buses run fairly regularly from Glasgow Buchannan Street Bus Station to Campbeltown throughout the day. These services stop in Tarbert and the journey time from Glasgow to Tarbert is approximately 3.5 hours.

Returning from Southend or Campbeltown:

There are fairly regular local bus services from Southend to Campbeltown operated by West Coast Motors. There are then regular Citylink  bus services from Campbeltown to Glasgow. The journey time is approximately 4.5 hours.

Taxi Service:

If you'd rather travel to Tarbert for the start of your walk and return from Fort William at the end by taxi, then we'd be delighted to provide you with a quote for this service. Return transfers are available from all Scottish Airports.
