The Great Glen Way                 your travel options

A self-guided walking holiday from the foot of Britain's highest mountain, to the mystery of Loch Ness and over wild Highland moorland to the Highland Capital

The Great Glen Way links the Atlantic Ocean in the west of Scotland with the Moray Firth on the east.

Opened in 2002 and stretching 73 miles (117km) from Fort William to Inverness, this walk follows one of the most scenic and famous of Scottish Glens.

The route begins near the foot of Ben Nevis, the UK's highest mountain and follows the Caledonian Canal along the banks of 4 spectacular Lochs on its way to Inverness, the Capital of the Highlands.

This route is generally easier than the West Highland Way as it follows canal tow-paths and Loch shores, although there are sections where the track climbs high above the shores of Loch Ness providing wonderful views below.
